COVID-19: What to expect from Brother under Level 2 restrictions

Entries need to be received by Brother NZ between 1-10 November 2020. 

Local judging will take place during November, and then sent to Japan for international judging. International winners will be announced in February 2021. Winners will be displayed at the Brother booth in the 20th Tokyo International Great Quilting Festival, Brother HP, and at various Brother events during 2020 to 2021.

The 2020 theme is "My Favourite Things"

Design a quilt that portrays your ‘favourite things’. It can be inspired by shapes that appeal to you or objects, activities or feelings that stimulate your imagination. We look forward to receiving your entry!

2020-Requirements

Requirements

  • The work has not been submitted to any other contest(s).
  • Must consist of 3 layers (top fabric, quilting cotton, back fabric) and all 3 must be sewed together. Quilting cotton for crazy quilt is unnecessary.
  • Technique is free. Decoration, embroidery etc. may be used, but frame is not allowed.
  • Size needs to be 70cm x 70cm (within ±5cm).
  • Must be an original design and not a copy of any design created by someone else or during a workshop. However, utilisation of traditional design is allowed.
  • Please attach an information sheet on the back right hand corner of the artwork. This should contain the following information: Name, title, address, country name, phone number, title of artwork.
  • Please sew on a fabric tube of 10cm size width for the hanging stick.
  • Do not use copyrighted items (pictures, characters etc), without the appropriate permissions.

Please complete the entry form and attach it to the back right hand corner of your quilt. 

Send it together with your artwork to: Brother International Quilt Contest, Level 5, Hamburg Sud Building, 52 Symonds Street, Auckland.

Handling of Personal Information
Personal information will only be used for contest operational purposes. Contest related information may be sent out to your written or email address. There will be no disclosure or usage of personal information for other purposes.

International Judges
Judges are selected from the following Colleges and Magazine companies: Sugino Fashion College, Tokyo Mode Gakuen College of Fashion & Design, Nihon Vogue-Sha Co. Ltd, Boutique-Sha Co. Ltd, Bunka Fashion College.

Display/Exhibition
Winners will be displayed at the Brother booth in the 20th Tokyo International Great Quilting Festival, Brother HP, and at various Brother events during 2020 to 2021.

Awards/Prizes

International Competition:
• Brother 1st Prize Award (1 winner): Certificate & cash (or same value prize) of USD1000.
• Outstanding Performance Award (5 winners): Certificate & cash (or same value prize) of USD300.
• Prize Winner (10 winners): Certificate & cash (or same value prize) of USD100.
• Brother Award: Most impressive artwork (2 winners): Certificate & cash (or same value prize) of USD100.

New Zealand Competition:
• First Prize for NZ: A Brother PQ1500SL worth $1,799.95.

Notes
Contestants are responsible for the safe transportation of their entries. All quilts will be returned. Entries that are not selected for awards will be returned after the evaluation in December. Award winning quilts will be used at Brother events from 2020 to 2021 and returned after use. Please understand that display, publication, and advertisement rights belong to Brother Industries, Ltd.
