Bobbin

The cylinder that holds the thread for the underside of the stitches formed by a sewing machine.

Bobbin Work

Use specialist threads, yarns and ribbons that will not fit through the needle. Wind the threads onto the bobbin and sew from underneath the fabric to create decorative effects.

Computerised Sewing Machine

A computerised sewing machine is a great choice if you're new to sewing but want to grow your skills. These machines make sewing easier and more accurate by letting you adjust the stitch length and width with simple controls.
They come with lots of built-in stitch patterns and lettering styles, so you can add creative touches to your projects. Some models even let you create your own stitch designs.
Most computerised machines have easy-to-use buttons and clear screens, making them simple to operate-even if you're just starting out.

Drop Feed

The drop feed feature lets you lower the feed dogs (the little teeth that move fabric while sewing). This is useful when you want full control over the fabric movement—like when doing free-motion sewing, embroidery, monogramming, or quilting.

When the feed dogs are dropped, the machine won’t move the fabric for you, so you can guide it freely in any direction.

Feed Dog

Feed dogs are small, saw-shaped teeth under the needle plate that help move the fabric while you sew. As the needle goes up and down, the feed dogs grip the fabric and guide it forward under the presser foot, making sure your stitches are even and smooth.

ICAPS

ICAPS stands for Innov-is Continuous Automatic Pressure System. It’s a smart feature that automatically adjusts the pressure of the presser foot based on the thickness of your fabric. This helps your machine sew smoothly over different types of fabric-whether thick or thin-without you needing to make manual changes.

It’s especially helpful for getting neat, even stitches when working on mixed or layered materials.

Knee Lift

A knee lift lets you raise the presser foot using your knee instead of your hands. This is especially helpful when working on large or tricky projects, because it keeps both hands free to guide the fabric while sewing.

It’s a great feature for quilting, embroidery, or any detailed work where you need extra control.

LED Light

An LED light brightens your sewing area so you can see your work clearly. It uses much less power than a regular bulb and stays cool while you sew. Best of all, LED lights are long-lasting-often lasting the entire life of the sewing machine-so you won’t need to replace them.

Mechanical Sewing Machine

A mechanical sewing machine offers the user all the basic functions they would need and is a great introduction to the world of sewing. Features are selected using a jog-dial and the machine is controlled by a traditional foot pedal. Simplicity doesn't mean a compromise on features as even the basic machines have multiple stitch types - including different styles and widths - automatic needle threaders and bobbin winders.

Open Toe Foot

An open toe foot is a presser foot with a wide opening at the front, giving you a clear view of the needle while you sew. This makes it easier to see exactly where your stitches are going-especially helpful for sewing curves, topstitching, or securing the edges of appliqué designs.

It’s a great tool for detailed or decorative sewing projects.

Overlocker

Overlockers are finishing machines and are used to sew hems, trim excess fabrics, and overlock raw edges in one step to prevent fraying. Overlockers are ideal for simple projects like clothing alterations and sewing knitted fabrics.

Pivoting Function

The Pivoting function raises the presser foot automatically whilst the needle is still in the fabric for easy and accurate rotation of fabric.

Presser Foot

A standard sewing foot designed to hold the fabric in place whilst it's being stitched.

Presser Foot Lever

The presser foot lever is used to lower and raise the presser foot.

Quilting Foot

A spring-loaded foot which raises and lowers with the needle to allow fabric to be moved between stitches. Ideal quilting, darning and free motion stitching.

Ruffler Foot

A ruffler foot make ruffles with evenly spaced tucks and gathers. As the ruffling blade on the lower portion of the presser foot is moved forward, its teeth catch the fabric and force it forward into gathers or tucks.

Slide Speed Control

Allows precise adjustment of the sewing speed whilst sewing.

Square Feed Drive System (SFDS)

Square Feed Drive System features a longer sewing foot and improved feed design to give a smooth even feeding action for superior stitch quality on any weight of fabric.

Start/Stop Button

Allows sewers to operate a sewing machine without using the foot pedal – simply start and stop the machine by pressing a button.
